About
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Amherst, NY specializing in working with individual adults struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, anger and those working through past trauma. I have worked with adults in a variety of settings with a special interest in older adults, "sandwich generation adults"(those caring for both elderly parents and younger family responsibilities), and end of life decision making and grief. More recently I have focused on how trauma impacts all our responses to our everyday life stressors.
Compassionate care and helping others making sense of the challenges of life and helping others to find meaning and healthier responses to everyday life stressors are the primary goals of my counseling practice.
My focus in treatment is to help clients identify what their strengths and and life goals are and to develop a plan with them to help them reach their best potential. I work with my clients to help them understand how the depth of emotions and thoughts impact our behavioral responses in all situations. We have more control over our responses when we understand "why we do, what we do, when we do it"! We will work together to help you communicate more effectively with others around you to find healthy life balance. How we respond is often how we have been taught to respond by others in our lives, which goes against the grain of who we actually are individually. Treatment modalities primarily utilized are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR(Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing - for trauma), ACT(Acceptance Commitment Therapy), Motivational Interviewing(MI), and Positive Psychology all of which are client centered approaches.
