About
Hi there! I am a psychotherapist who has been in private practice in Richmond for over thirty years. I recently joined a practice in Charlottesville, after having moved to a nearby farm.
I work with tweens, teens, young adults, adults, couples, and families. My clients present with a wide variety of “symptoms” of emotional imbalance and unhappiness, many of which are about loss, unmet emotional needs and natural, defensive attempts to feel emotional safety. Anxiety, stress, depression, poor self-esteem, anger and relational hurt are examples of emotional distress I encounter in my practice. A typical initial goal is to replace defensive, emotional reactivity with calm, making it possible to access the “smart” brain and develop ethical, effective solutions to any problem.
I developed Selfsight™, a model that takes you on a tour through your emotional interior, illustrating how 10 Competent Choices create a foundation for emotional balance. 10 Competent Choices is a map and how-to guide to healthy self-relationship in which you make competent choices promoting awareness, goodness, inner strength and smart solutions. I weave this paradigm into my work with many clients.
