About
Dr. K. is the founder and director of Arlington/DC Behavior Therapy Institute (ABTI). She is a CBT expert with over 25 years of experience in psychotherapy, teaching, and conducting research. In addition to heading the ABTI, she is an Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown University Psychology Department.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University, Dr. K. earned her Master’s and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia. Prior to private practice, she gained extensive psychotherapy experience at Bellevue Hospital/NYU Medical School, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and George Mason University.
In addition to being a therapist, Dr. K. has worked for many years as a professor at George Mason University, American School of Professional Psychology, and Hood College. She has instructed and supervised future therapists, taught numerous undergraduate and graduate classes, and conducted research. Dr. K. has published many scientific articles, presented at over 45 national and international conferences, and provided continuing education training for psychologists, counselors, and social workers. Her published and presented work deals with CBT, anxiety, depression, and mindfulness.
Dr. K. has advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
Dr. K. writes a Psychology Today blog “From science to practice” and publishes articles in The Washington Post, The Conversation, Chicago Tribune, Psychology Today Magazine, and other outlets. Owing to her multicultural background, she is fluent in English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, and conversational in French.
