About
Hello! My name is Vanessa F. Freeman and I am a licensed psychologist with an interest in serving the Black community, communities of color, and any individuals interested in addressing their multicultural identities in therapy. I believe that every person deserves access to mental health resources and that therapy has the power to help individuals unlock, access, and/or reconnect to their authentic selves. It is through this connection to our authentic selves that we can live our lives to the fullest and support those around us. Making the decision to begin therapy can be a challenging and scary one and I work with clients to honor that feeling and figure out the best way to use the time we have together.
I know that talking about mental health within the Black community and communities of color can be challenging. I believe our communities face unique issues that require a therapist to be understanding, empathetic, and open. I believe I offer a space for Black clients and clients of color to be their authentic selves in sessions. I see myself as a person who is knowledgeable in psychology and counseling, and the client as the expert in their experience. Together, we work to understand what the client wants to change, address, and/or improve.
I am originally from New Jersey and have lived in several states up and down the east coast. I got my doctorate from Florida State University and attended University of Delaware for my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching true crime shows, learning about the universe, and sitting quietly with a hot cup of tea. I am also very passionate about the fight for racial and social justice and finding ways to create more inclusive environments for Black folks, communities of color, and other marginalized groups.
