About

My approach is supportive, encouraging and value-based. I take the time to help you make sense of your feelings and figure out what direction is right for you. In therapy, we will work to achieve the goals that are important to you and build the skills needed to get you there. I strive to understand the unique experiences of each person and use evidence-based techniques, such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction and Solution-focused therapy to get the outcomes you’re looking for. A collaborative approach will help you understand and overcome the places where you’re stuck, and to lead a life you truly value.

Dr. Sell is a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania and a Certified Prolonged Exposure Therapist for treatment of PTSD. He earned his doctorate in clinical psychology at Immaculata University and master’s degree from Chestnut Hill College with a focus in Addictions Treatment. He completed his postdoctoral residency at the Addiction Institute of New York, Mount Sinai Health System, where he received specialized training in evidence-based approaches to substance use problems, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and motivational enhancement strategies.

Dr. Sell is qualified to treat a range of problems and specializes in working with clients who are struggling with substance use problems, as well as those who have experienced trauma. He is sensitive to the experiences of people who may have been marginalized based on race, gender or LGBTQ identity. He has experience working in both hospital settings and outpatient clinics. He has conducted psychological testing and therapy with adults at Girard Medical Center, where he gained experience using Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD. He has served as a therapist at Holcomb Behavioral Health System and Step By Step outpatient counseling program for co-occurring disorders. He completed an APA-approved internship at Elwyn Behavioral Health in Philadelphia, where he worked with a diverse client population in terms of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and presenting problems. Dr. Sell’s dissertation investigated the current state of knowledge among psychologists on evidence-based approaches to treating co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. He has also conducted trainings and taught graduate courses on this subject. In addition, he has taught psychology courses at Northampton Community College for over six years as an adjunct instructor.
