About
Patricia (Trish) Carter has been a licensed counselor in private practice for 22 years, with additional roots in social services including over a decade at Boystown and The Salvation Army. She is independently licensed in both Nebraska (Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner) and Kansas (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor), and holds a Board Certification in Neurofeedback (BCN) through the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance.
Trish specializes in anxiety, complex PTSD, couples counseling, and neurofeedback. Her style is relaxed and conversational, but she always brings a clear clinical framework to her work. With anxiety and complex PTSD clients she typically begins with emotional regulation and somatic grounding before moving into deeper work using CBT and EMDR. With couples she starts by assessing safety and communication patterns before applying Gottman Method (Level II) and Emotionally Focused Therapy strategies to help partners break stuck cycles, improve communication, and rebuild emotional connection. She also offers premarital counseling for couples building a strong foundation before marriage.
For clients who feel like talk therapy alone hasn't been enough, Trish offers neurofeedback — a brain-based, drug-free approach that works at the nervous system level and can be especially effective for anxiety, complex PTSD, stress, depression, ADHD, and sleep difficulties. She has been practicing neurofeedback since 2009 and is one of a small number of practitioners in the Kansas City and Omaha areas holding the BCN credential.
Trish previously taught in the Psychology Department at the College of Saint Mary and in the Graduate Counselor Education Department at the University of Nebraska. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance.
Trish offers secure telehealth sessions throughout Kansas and Nebraska for individual and couples counseling, and sees neurofeedback clients in person at her Overland Park, KS office. She has weekday and evening availability and is currently accepting new clients.
