About
My name is Melissa Haigh, and I am Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional in Washington State. I know the journey to finding the right therapist can be daunting. The most important factor to consider is that you feel comfortable with your therapist and believe that they are the right fit for you.
My therapeutic style is described as warm, friendly, and authentic. I provide clients a safe and non-judgmental space to develop insight into their struggles and collaboratively work together to solve their unique challenges. I work with individuals (including children & teens), couples, and families with a focus on Anxiety & Depression, Couples Therapy, Recovery from Narcissistic or Borderline Abuse, and Family Therapy.
I work from a Systems Theory and Attachment Theory perspective in conjunction with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative Therapy. My philosophy on change and growth is that therapy is a two-part process. We begin by gaining insight into our problems by exploring where our thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs originate from, as well as how our attachment style may influence past and current relationships. And second, using this insight to assist in changing unhelpful patterns in your present life that cause you suffering.
It’s essential for you to feel both comfortable and have a sense of ownership over your individual therapy experience. There is not a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, which is why I continuously welcome ongoing feedback from clients about how they want their therapeutic experience to be. I pride myself on being genuine with my clients and embrace that I am also a human being on a continuous journey of growth. If the style of therapy I’m using is not working for you, I welcome an open discussion about what you think would work better for your needs.
What would a therapy session look like? A therapy session could look more like talk-therapy, where we are spending part or all of the session unpacking past trauma(s) or exploring were a present problem might be coming from. The session could also look more active were together; we are focused on creating new ways of thinking about challenges, learning or practicing new skills, and restructuring unhelpful patterns of behavior. Or a blend of both!
