About

Hi! I’m Mark Nash. I’m a psychotherapist, but I didn’t start out that way.

My background is in the arts, specifically live theatre, where I worked as an actor, director, and producer. After 30 years in the field, at the age of 50, I decided it was time for a change. In 2012, I entered the master’s program in mental health counseling at the University of Vermont. In 2014, I completed my degree. I am now in my sixth year of private practice.

My previous career has given me a wealth of knowledge that I’ve been able to directly apply to my current work. The skills and qualities that one must possess to be an effective theatre artist – authenticity, empathy, and a rich understanding of human nature – are at the very core of engaging in the process of healing and growth with another human being.

It is this knowledge, along with a deep curiosity and a strong desire to help make positive change in others’ lives, that shapes and guides my work as a therapist.

While I work with several different therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), the practice of mindfulness is the underlying principle guiding my work.

Simply put, mindfulness is a way of bringing attention to the here and now without judgment of self or others. By learning to move towards greater acceptance, compassion, and curiosity, we can release the thoughts and habits that no longer serve us, and replace them with new ways of being in the world.
