About
My name is Linda Schlapfer and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in New York, Connecticut, and Florida, specializing in individual, couples, and family therapy.
For almost 20 years, I have worked with married couples who feel “stuck;" individuals who are divorcing; blended families who are struggling; and pre‑marital couples addressing their current challenges in a proactive way. My approach is interactive, practical, and solution-focused. Together, we work to identify concerns, goals, and beliefs, but we don’t dwell on conflicts or negativity. Instead, I encourage clients to look for new and creative ways to resolve problems. I challenge clients' perceptions and assumptions to help break old destructive patterns to enable them to move on and attain their goals. In a collaborative, supportive, and safe environment, I provide compassionate guidance that enables clients to effectively cope with life's challenges.
Before opening my private practice, I was the Assistant Director at Greenwich Family and Youth Options and ran social skills groups, substance abuse prevention, and divorce groups. I am also a mediator for the Connecticut Council for Divorce Mediation and Family Dispute Resolution, trained to work out disagreements and reduce conflicts in all kinds of family matters.
I have a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fairfield University. Additional course study includes the completion of a four‑year postgraduate program at the Family Institute of Westchester and continuing education at the Ackerman Institute for the Family in New York City. I am a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and hold a certificate from the Sexual Health Certificate Program at the University of Michigan.
As a wife, mother, and stepmother, I have an understanding of the unique challenges that couples and blended families often face. I have worked with many individuals and families to improve relationships, enhance communication, and develop realistic expectations.
