About
Hi, I’m Gina. I’m a licensed mental health therapist providing individual counseling in Des Moines, Iowa. I specialize in therapy for anxiety and life transitions. I help people find emotional balance and learn to be present so they can live intentionally and meaningfully.
Your life isn’t necessarily falling apart but you’re not happy. You’ve thought about going to therapy many times but then you end up procrastinating. You tell yourself you should be able to figure this out on your own and that therapy is for people with problems worse than yours.
But lately something has tipped the scales. Most of the time you handle your emotions pretty well but now it’s too much with everything you have going on. You’re stressed, anxious or depressed. Some days you’re not even sure how you feel.
There’s been a change in your life and you’re not coping as well as you usually do. You’re treading water in life. You feel stuck. You’ve stopped doing the things you enjoy. You feel like you need more purpose and direction.
Maybe you find yourself thinking more about the past and wondering how what you’ve been through in your life has affected you. You’re a little bit not sure you want to go there.
I can help you break through difficult feelings and thoughts so you can find peace and fulfillment in your life. Sitting down with someone and laying it all out there- the messy, complicated truth of it all- can be transformative. Life is difficult for everyone, but you don’t have to just suffer through it alone. By being intentional and taking that first small step, you can make lasting changes.
I have a down to earth, interactive style. I know coming to therapy can feel weird, especially the first time, so I try to keep it natural. My approach is holistic, taking into account your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. To me you’re a unique person, not a diagnosis.
I’m trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and several mindfulness-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I have also completed specialized training in mindfulness, meditation and yoga
.I’m the mother of two boys, ages 9 and 13 and partner to my husband Brian. I’m originally from Florida but I’ve also lived in six other states (Washington, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oregon, California and Georgia). So, yes, if you’re adjusting to a recent move, I’m here for you! In my free time, I love to read, ride my bike, do yoga, travel and spend time outdoors with my family.
