About

Fresh out of grad school and ready to start a career in mental health, I only knew that I wanted to use my personal experiences and passion for helping people in my work… but I didn’t know exactly what that work would be.

I just happened to find it when I was hired as a Play Therapist at a childcare center for families experiencing homelessness in Dallas, Texas.

This work, as you can imagine, was highly specialized in early childhood trauma. I worked as a therapist with children ages birth to 5 years old and their parents, many of whom were just teenagers themselves. These families had been through unimaginable difficulty, often for generations, and their traumatic experiences showed up in their symptoms…

It was hard work, but I fell in love with walking alongside people though their most difficult circumstances, helping them tap into their innate strength and ability to grow through pain, and seeing their lives change for the better.

I was eventually promoted from Play Therapist to Clinical Director, overseeing both child and adult psychological services for a number of years.
