About
Audrey McMorrow is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Maine with a Masters and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Holistic Counseling. She is also a national Board-Certified Life Coach, and has been trained extensively in Psychosynthesis, a psychological approach that focuses on achieving an integration of the various parts of an individual's personality into a more cohesive self. Audrey has a range of experience in working with individuals and groups on the path of personal growth, meaning and purpose.
"Ever since I can remember, I always wanted to know the 'why' of things. Not necessarily from a scientific standpoint, but more about the nature of human nature. I would often have dreams in which I was pursuing the “truth,” always elusive to me. I thought if I just had all the answers and could understand where people came from and why they acted the way they did, I would be fine. What was it that I was supposed to know or learn?
As I began to integrate and individuate myself, I soon realized that “why” was not the right question. Once I understood why in any given situation, the situation still remained. Over time the “why” of it became less important. What emerged in its place was the search for my own authenticity, the driving force to speak my “truth.” What did I value in life? What held meaning for me? What was my purpose? How did I fit into this life I was trying to create? As I put those questions out into the Universe, it responded in myriad ways, leading me to where I am today."
My therapeutic practice stems from the very essence of who I am. There are three elements that I feel are crucial to the work that I do:
- Mindfulness. In everyday life we spend so much time either thinking about our past or worrying about our future. All we really have is this moment in time. To spend that moment in full awareness and gratitude can be the greatest joy of all.
So much of life’s suffering stems from avoiding pain we anticipate. When one learns to sit with an unpleasant emotion and allow it to move through us, it can bring many insights. Most importantly, it can pass.
- Spiritual Essence. When we realize that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, perceptions shift. Creating a balance between living a “spiritual” life (and that is defined individually) and a life bound by human limitations is what is necessary, with an understanding that we are doing the best we can, given our limited level of consciousness.
- Psychosynthesis. This therapeutic modality has been instrumental in allowing myself and others to begin to identify and experience (and fulfill) the needs and wants of the different parts of ourselves, both conscious and unconscious. Albert Einstein once said, “We cannot solve a problem with the same mind-set that created it.” Psychosynthesis allows one to make different choices, often to step out of a particular mindset into another to problem solve. It also recognizes that transpersonal qualities such as creativity, intuition, spirituality, love, and so many others, available to us all, can be of huge benefit to the healing and growth process.
