About
Life is difficult; circumstances challenge each of us and, at some point, we need someone with whom to talk. If you find yourself in this position and are willing to invest the time and do the work, I would be honored to help you do so.
Everyone is comprised of biological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual components. If one of those elements are missing or damaged, the person will not be whole and will continue to experience difficulties. Let us explore this together.
My vision of counseling is to work with you to help you discover the answers you need; as I said earlier, the work you put into counseling will determine how successful the process will be. Counseling is personal and sensitive; information provided is treated confidentially. I am honored to walk with you through your valley and am as vested in the counseling process as are you. While an ideal client is one who knows they are powerless to control their wrong tendencies, who knows s/he is important to God, is ready to make a conscious decision to commit life and will to Jesus Christ, admits to faults, and willing to seek God’s wisdom to change, you do not have to match those parameters before contacting me.
I bring a life of faith and experiences into the counseling relationship and am a student of Scripture. Since everyone is unique, and as much in need of grace as am I, therapy is tailored to fit your unique needs. This is a place for you to feel safe. I have first-hand experience with grief, having lost both parents and a wife. I have also experienced abortion, affairs, and divorce. And I continue to experience God’s forgiveness and grace, something I want to share with you. You have done nothing to surprise God and, because of my life experiences, very little to surprise me.
Counseling is my second career, having retired from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections after 33 years. I returned to school and obtained my master’s degree in counseling from Liberty University in 2017. I have been licensed by the State of Wisconsin as a professional counselor in training since then, and deal with issues like depression, anxiety, grief, substance and behavior use, anger, and those who are mandated to be in treatment. I provide Christian counseling services to individuals, couples, and families. My wife and I are certified SYMBIS (www.symbis.com: Save Your Marriage Before It Starts) facilitators and we enjoy helping other couples. Prayer and Scripture can be included in sessions. During couples and family sessions, and with permission, my wife is available to join in. If supervised visitation is needed, that service is an option. Celebrate Recovery is also an available resource as we co-facilitate the local chapter with another individual.
Solid Rock Counseling is a solo practice and all clients are welcomed. I have a home-based office in Muscoda and one at Grace Community Church, Richland Center. During this time of pandemic and social separation, a telehealth counseling platform is utilized; once separation has been lifted, it will continue to be an option. Acceptable forms of payment are cash, check, and credit card.
My wife and I are active members of Grace Community Church. We are co-leaders of the local Celebrate Recovery chapter and are SYMBIS (Save Your Marriage Before It Starts) facilitators. I am a student of Scripture and of the classical guitar, and an American Red Cross blood donor.
