About
Sonya Waddell Coy is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Board Certified Telemental Health (BC-TMH) and has been providing therapy for nearly 15 years. She uses a technique called Rapid Resolution Therapy which is a technique that is used to help clients resolve challenges they are facing rapidly. Some clients have had challenges resolved in one session. Others have seen amazing results in 1 to 6 sessions. This process is painless, which helps the client eliminate the emotional pain without reliving the traumatic or stressful event by telling the therapist over and over again. Clients are able to eliminate negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors which bring peace to the soul.
Sonya is committed to helping facilitate change and growth in her clients and works diligently to truly understand their needs. She specializes in working with adult clients who struggle with anxiety and who are stuck because of a trauma in their lives. Sonya understands that one therapy technique will not work for everyone and that she must adapt to her client and the way they learn and take in information.
She has appeared as a guest therapist on Praise 102.5FM, Love 860AM, blog radio on Women Warriors and Business Leaders of Today. Sonya provides individual, family, and group therapy to adolescents and adults. She specializes in working with adults who have experienced traumatic events as well as those having difficulties with: depression, anxiety, divorce, anger, sexual abuse, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and stress management.
She has worked at Child Advocacy Centers and has provided therapy to children and adolescents who were victims of sexual and physical abuse. Sonya also provided family therapy, and parenting classes. She has used Play Therapy to assist with healing children. Sonya is a Facilitator for Darkness to Light’s program, Stewards of Children, which teaches adults how to protect children from child sexual abuse. Sonya is a former Forensic Interviewer and has provided expert testimony in abuse cases.
She provided therapy for over two years in Cobb County School District with the Success for All Students Program. She worked with students who were struggling academically due to behavior challenges. Sonya was instrumental in working with parents and teachers with strategies to help children and adolescents in the following areas: anger management, ADHD, anxiety, depression, coping skills, and social skills etc. She lead a Transition Group that helped students transition from middle to high school, an Ecotherapy Group which allowed students to construct and maintain a garden which fostered self-esteem and personal growth, and a parenting group known as Child-Parent Relationship Therapy which helped return control back to the parent.
