About

My name is Rebecca Williams and I have been practicing in the field of children’s mental health since 2007. I am Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW). I received my BA in psychology from the University of Northern Iowa in 2007. I graduated from the University of Iowa with a Master of Social Work (MSW) in 2012. I worked in larger community agencies until opening Open Hearts Therapy in the fall of 2018. I have Endorsement® as an infant mental health specialist.

I have a wide range of experience and specialize in working with young children and adults. I have training in several evidence based and trauma informed practices including EMDR and Child Parent Psychotherapy. I use a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach in all of my work. In working with children, I focus on relationship-based work that promotes infant and early childhood mental health. This approach extends to work with adults at times as our early experiences with relationships can impact adult relationships. As a client you may expect to see a creative approach to sessions including play therapy techniques, sand tray and other methods. However, I will always use what is a best fit for my clients. I am a member of the NASW and the Iowa Association of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our son. I love riding my bike through the local trails. I also enjoy baking and figuring out how to make stuff. From quilts to bottle rockets, I am always wondering “Could I do that?”.
