About
My name is Rachel Firneno, owner and therapist at HM Counseling Services. I am a board-certified professional counselor (NCC) and a board-certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH), independently licensed in the states of Colorado (LPC License # 0013992) and Texas (LPC License # 74300). I have been practicing psychotherapy since completing my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology program in 2014, at Texas A&M University – Central Texas. Since graduating in 2014, I have provided psychological evaluation and therapy for hundreds of individuals, struggling with a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression and anxiety, Severe and Persistent Mental Illnesses, substance abuse, and individuals involved in the Criminal Justice system.
My work experience includes working for several years as a psychotherapist at an out-patient, community mental health agency providing psychological evaluations, treatment determinations, and therapy. After 5 years of working in the Ft. Hood, TX area, I began working in Denver Colorado providing psychological evaluations and therapy for Veterans and soldiers returning from combat, as well as their family members. Since 2017, I have maintained a private practice in which I provide psychological assessment and therapy for adults dealing with a variety of psychiatric disorders.
I have regularly appeared in court as a mental health expert on an interdisciplinary team for both Mental Health Courts (Ft. Hood, TX) and Veteran’s Court (Lakewood, CO) educating team members, including Judges, prosecutors, attorneys, court staff, families, clients, and many others about the impact of trauma on individuals.
Over the years I have also attended numerous workshops and webinars, honing my skills as a trauma evaluator and therapist to include Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) through the Strong Star Training Initiative in Ft. Hood, TX, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through the Institute of Cognitive Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through the EMDR Center of the Rockies. I have completed advanced trainings in EMDR for Military, Veterans, and First Responders from the Soldier Center out of Clarksville, TN.
