About

Welcome to Dr. Clayman’s private practice, conveniently located on Beacon Street in Brookline. She became a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, following her initial career as a Registered Nurse.

Dr. Clayman works with adolescents, young adults, adults and couples on issues such as depression, anxiety, stress and relationships, trauma/post-traumatic stress, grief and loss, life transitions, anger management and chronic and acute health issues.

Creating an environment of acceptance and compassion, Dr. Clayman values the therapeutic relationship as paramount for a successful experience. Her goal is to offer a safe space where clients feel understood, valued and respected. Dr. Clayman emphasizes a collaborative approach in which the therapist and the client work together to increase self awareness through understanding the past, develop effective coping strategies for the present and identify goals for change and personal growth.

Dr. Clayman has confidence in the value of insight oriented/ psychodynamic therapy. She integrates a humanistic, relational therapeutic approach with evidence based approaches, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, solution-focused and strength-based therapy.

Her adolescent psychotherapy practice involves identifying feelings, increasing insight, improving problem-solving skills, consulting with schools, coordinating with physicians, and providing parent guidance. In her work with adolescents, the primary task in establishing a successful therapeutic relationship is maintaining trust. Dr. Clayman communicates with the parents of her adolescent clients regularly, with the age and developmental needs of the patient determining the content and frequency of the contact.

Dr. Clayman sees many adults individually, and this work focuses on gaining self-understanding through exploration of the past, identifying current concerns, developing coping mechanisms for the present and promoting personal growth.

Dr. Clayman has advanced training in Couples Therapy and enjoys working with both straight and LGBTQ couples and with couples who are just getting started as well as couples who have been together for many years. Her work with couples focuses on improving communication, changing destructive interpersonal interactions and fostering intimacy.
