About

Throughout our lifetime, we face many challenges. We may become overwhelmed and don't always know how to proceed. We cannot always cope with these hardships alone. No one should suffer in silence. Since 1986, I have been dedicated to providing guidance and education to individuals, couples and families with behavioral health issues so they can find ways to heal and create the life that they desire.

I am a licensed clinical social worker who will help you harness your personal strengths so you can find resolutions to the challenges you face. Through my experience in treating families, couples and individuals struggling with anxiety and depression, I have found that many people face addiction issues as well. Often, this secondary condition develops as a way to “self-medicate” in order to feel “normal.” Seeking answers for why this secondary condition occurs, I furthered my focus and continued my education in addiction studies.

Through my continued education and experiences with my clients, I recognized that a large percent of people who struggle with addiction have also experienced trauma that was never addressed. As a result, I decided to continue my education to not only focus on addiction, but to also expand my knowledge on effective trauma therapy approaches. My trauma treatment skills range from working with people who have experienced single incident traumas (e.g. car accidents, crime experiences, medical conditions or other accidents) to those were faced with in-depth, long-term traumas and PTSD (e.g. physical, emotional, or sexual childhood abuse, domestic violence or combat experiences).

The therapy environment that I offer is non-judgmental and comfortable, one in which you can open up and explore yourself. My goal as a therapist is to provide you with the optimal experience so you can find your personal strengths, gain tools to cope and implement the necessary changes you need to live a life of satisfaction and fulfillment.

When I think back on my therapist journey, it began when I first received my associate degree in the fine arts. While I enjoyed the creativity and self-expression of the field, I was also blessed to have had the opportunity to take art therapy classes, an area of study that was newer in the late 70's. At the moment, I knew I wanted to figure out a way to implement creativity in order to help others with everyday mental health issues. I went on to finish my bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan in Psychology and master's degree at Wayne State University. From that point on, I continued my work in addiction studies and trauma therapy with individuals and families.

Personally, I enjoy creating art for my own grounding. I love working in clay and mosaics. Nature, natural health, the art of food and eating healthy are also very important to me as they bring me focus and rejuvenation. Other important people in my life include my spouse, my son and his family and our two rescue dogs that love hiking excursions.
