About

As a former military spouse and a daughter of a Vietnam Era Veteran, the military community holds a special place in my heart and where I seem to thrive. I understand how military culture can impact an individual’s worldview and how it is different from the general public. Therefore, I strive to create a safe place for one to be most courageous with their vulnerability while creating strategic challenges rooted in evidence-based therapies that promote effective and healthy change.

Technically, my journey as a Clinical Social Worker began in 2011. However, it actually started shortly after obtaining a Psychology degree from University of California, Riverside in 2003. I was a case manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters in both Pensacola, FL (2003-2004) and Chesapeake, VA (2004-2005). I worked with single parent families in enrolling and matching their children with trained adult mentors. A couple of years later, I found myself newly married and living on Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi, Japan. At that time, Military Sexual Trauma (MST) was becoming more prevalent and rightfully outstanding issue, and I believed this was a cause needing my attention. After extensive training by NAF Fleet and Family Support Center Psychiatric staff, I volunteered to respond to survivors of MST and domestic violence. Upon returning to the States, I landed in Northern NV which led me to graduate school at UNR. Since 2011, I have worked with individuals from all walks of life, in settings including inpatient, residential and outpatient care facilities with children, adolescents, and adults.

With my recent work at VA, where I was a trauma specialist and the subject matter expert in Military Sexual Trauma and Intimate Partner Violence, I decided to extend the training and experience I received there to the Veteran population that is not receiving mental health care at the VA and to our Northern Nevada community. My primary work is now with adults and sexual assault survivors. I also supervise clinical and masters level social work interns.

I have specialized training in treating trauma related symptoms as well as depression, anxiety, grief, mood regulation, and relational issues. I also assist addressing life transitions/adjustments, moral injury, military readjustment to civilian life, relationship and communication difficulties, expectation let downs, boundary setting, perfectionism, procrastination, self-compassion, and self-confidence, all of which can impact trauma symptoms and create distress for anyone.

I believe self-determination is very important in therapy. I utilize a person-centered, values-based approach that focuses on building a strong therapeutic alliance in order to help an individual explore challenging and relational patterns in their life, deepen self-awareness, and take the steps toward change. My hope for any client that leaves my care is they are able to recognize their strength, resiliency, courage, problem-solving capabilities and the confidence in now having the skills to maintain their defined values-based life.

In my free time, I enjoy riding my motorcycle, camping, DIY projects, paddle boarding, skiing, and spending time with friends, family, and my sweet Jolene, the English Cream Golden Retriever whom you will find on this website and may meet in therapy sessions.

I am not a “touchy-feely” therapist, and yet very compassionate, patient, and understanding. I am real. I am direct. I am present. I am transparent. I will truly climb down in the mud with you in order to help get you out.

I am a team player following your lead, which may also include me pushing you when think you can’t go any further.

I’m not easily intimidated, shaken, or shocked, although I can be pretty animated and appropriately funny.

I have heard and seen a lot.

I laugh. I swear. You will see a real human at work with you.

I am more than honored to share the heaviness you are feeling, because I can hold it while you are navigating the muck.
