About
Dr. Miranda Thornton is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Texas and North Carolina. She is trained to work with individuals, couples, families, and groups. She particularly enjoys working with adolescents and their families, is LGBT affirmative, and enjoys working with multiple minority groups. Dr. Thornton specializes in working with treatment resistant youth, particularly within the family system context. Dr. Thornton IS currently accepting new clients and new supervisees at her new location in south Charlotte, NC.
Dr. Thornton also holds designations as a Texas LMFT board Approved Supervisor, as well as AAMFT Approved Supervisor Candidate. As such, she is able to provide supervision to LMFT-Associates in both NC and TX, and is available for case consultation. Dr. Thornton offers face-to-face services in the Charlotte area, and some services may be available online. Any and all online therapy (i.e., teletherapy) services require a face-to-face intake session prior to initiation, may require regular in-person visits to the office, and are only available to persons physically located in a state Dr. Thornton is licensed in. Dr. Thornton occasionally will offer in-home therapeutic services, if the entire family system is present (these services are not offered on a sliding scale fee and must be prepaid).
Dr. Thornton holds a PhD in Family Therapy from Texas Woman's University (2018), as well as two Master of Science degrees: one in Family Studies (2015) and one in Family Therapy (2011). She began working with families, individuals, and groups in a community-based clinic in 2010 during her education, prior to becoming licensed at the associate level in 2012. Currently, Dr. Thornton is the Clinic Director, and an Assistant Professor, in the COAMFTE accredited Master's of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy Program with Pfeiffer University.
