About
I received my B.S. in Chemistry Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2003 after student teaching at Oregon High School, Malcolm Shabazz City High School, and Spring Harbor Middle School. Then I taught Chemistry, Physics, Math (and basketball) to high school girls and boys in Tanzania, working with the U.S. Peace Corps.
After coming home from Africa, I worked for Argonne National Laboratory traveling to critical infrastructure sites around the country. But eventually, my passion for mind/soul/relational processes led me to Oakland, California to pursue a masters degree in Counseling Psychology, with a specialization in Transpersonal Psychology. I received my M.A. from the John F. Kennedy University School of Holistic Studies in 2012 and became licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California and Wisconsin.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, I worked as a counselor at an alternative high school, a community mental health clinic, a university counseling center, an assisted living facility, and a camp for young survivors of brain tumors and their families.
During my last two years in California, I was a clinician on the Contra Costa Action Team, working with individuals experiencing difficulty with psychosis, addiction, homelessness, and the criminal justice system. I built genuine therapeutic relationships with these individuals and their families and worked tirelessly to help them live safely in the community and to stop the difficult cycle of crises, hospitalizations, and incarcerations.
I now provide couples counseling and psychotherapy to the Stoughton and Madison areas through Big Heart Counseling. My professional work is informed primarily by Humanistic Psychology, Existential Therapy, Art and Drama Therapy, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Constellation work, and Transpersonal Psychology. I am also the volunteer mental health clinician with the Stoughton Free Health Clinic, and I'm listed on the Wisconsin Emergency Assistance Volunteer Registry (WEAVR).
