About
I received a Bachelor's Degree in Education/Biblical Studies from Southeastern Bible College (Birmingham, Alabama) and a Master's Degree in Agency & Community Counseling from the University of Montevallo (Montevallo, Alabama). I am also certified by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling as a Supervising Counselor to provide supervision for those seeking full licensure. I am a wife to my wonderful husband, Don. I have two children - a very loyal son and a daughter who now lives in Heaven - and three gorgeous granddaughters. I am a Christian and am active in my local church. I enjoy writing, cooking, reading, sewing, quilting, & playing with my grandchildren.
I have over 25 years experience in the Mental Health field, having worked in a variety of settings including private practice, intensive out-patient treatment for those with severe mental illness and chemical dependency, wilderness program for troubled teens, and outpatient services for children/adolescent/families issues. I have certification in Trauma Counseling. I work with all ages, regardless of sex, race, or economic status. I have provided in-home therapy for at-risk families, and have had extensive training in working with children/adolescents in multiple situations. Areas of specialty include: pre-marital/marital issues, chronic pain/illness, chemical dependency, family dysfunction, educational/ vocational attainment, dealing with trauma/abuse from the past, and grief & loss.
My goals in counseling are:
(1) to walk along the journey with someone to assist them in knowing who they are, and learning to like and accept who they are;
(2) to assist people in forming meaningful relationships, devoid of abuse or manipulation;
(3) to help people form short-term and long-term goals and to ascertain the steps needed to obtain those goals;
(4) to provide services in an atmosphere that fosters compassion and empathy in order to help the client feel safe and comfortable at all times.
I consider my services as a ministry, therefore my fees are much less than most professional counselors. In this day and time where healthcare issues seem to get more and more complicated, it is my heart-felt wish to provide professional, ethical services at a price affordable to anyone who desires to improve their life.
