About
Jennifer Young, MA, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in individual, couples and family psychotherapy with a variety of client populations, and maintains a private practice in Martinsburg, West Virginia. With over 15 years experience as a clinician, and a graduate of Marshall University Graduate College specializing in Community Counseling, Ms. Young is currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients.
I believe in a holistic approach to counseling in which all systems are connected and interdependent. While my therapeutic techniques are highly personalized to the individual, I often integrate key components of cognitive behavioral, client-centered, insight-oriented, solution-focused, and trauma-informed therapy. My primary goal is to connect with individuals in an authentic and meaningful way while providing hope, empathy, and understanding to internal/external stressors as well as life’s challenges. Among my areas of expertise are child and adolescent behavioral/emotional problems stemming from ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. I also provide individual, family, and couples therapy to improve relationships, increase self-awareness/acceptance, and learn effective means of coping with life stressors.
As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) through the International Association of Trauma Professionals, I am committed to helping trauma survivors throughout the recovery process in healing from PTSD, abuse, and other traumatic experiences. Although we cannot change the past, we can choose how we think, feel, and react/respond to these events. Just as a beautiful lotus flower blossoms from a combination of muck and mud, so can the human psyche and spirit be reborn (or reinvented) from our emotional pain and scars of our existence.
