About
My role as a therapist is strongly influenced by my experience as a husband, father of two wonderful children, a Christian, and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. My approach is practical, sincere, and gentle, but challenging. I engage clients in collaborative guidance, examining together means of accessing greater contentment.
For eighteen years, I have worked with adults, teens, and families in a variety of treatment settings nationally and internationally. I have provided wilderness therapy to teens across the US, as well as counseling in a variety of therapeutic boarding schools. I also served as Clinical Director in a residential treatment center in the South Pacific. I have given professional talks across the nation on teen and parenting issues.
I have developed extensive experience in counseling those with depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, attachment issues, and high-functioning autism, as well as family therapy, parent coaching, and couples counseling. I am able to offer long-term counseling as well as brief therapy/solution-focused counseling. I offer services for children as young as 10 with no upper-limit. I draw from a variety of approaches in counseling, just as the people I serve are diverse with a variety of needs and preferences.
In 2001, I created a degree program at the University of Georgia called Mind, Body, Spirit, which combined the respective majors of psychology, nutrition and religion into one interdisciplinary study. I was privileged to facilitate an art therapy program at a local psychiatric unit, gathering many experiences that would shape my profound appreciation for the therapeutic relationship.
I, then, attended Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, where I studied counseling psychology with an emphasis in wilderness therapy. My post-graduate journey has refined my original ideas and ambitions into tried experience. Also, my professional mentors have encouraged in me acuity with building relationships and working effectively with strong emotion. At this point, my academic career coupled with work experience has grounded my approach in its clinical foundation.
