About
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) with a Masters degree in Counseling & Educational Psychology from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. NMSU's counseling program is accredited through CACREP, an independent body dedicated to counseling excellence.
I also earned a Masters degree in Comparative Sociology from Florida International University in Miami. My sociological background and training affords me the tools to strive toward being a more culturally democratic counselor with a sensitivity to the needs of minoritized communities and those with less power in our society.
I have served as an Intake Coordinator for a 200-bed homeless shelter in Fort Lauderdale, and as a Respite Care Coordinator for the South Florida district before locating to New Mexico in 2003. I have been counseling in Las Cruces for 10 years, and I have been teaching community college courses for the past 20 years. I was awarded the Donald C. Roush award for Teaching Excellence by Doña Ana Community College in 2014.
I use the foundations of counseling and sociology to help bring about "enhanced well-being through greater self-awareness". I have experience with a wide range of issues including: depression, anxiety, LGBTQ+ issues, trauma, individuals with criminal histories, substance abuse and relationship issues among others. I use a non-directive, eclectic theoretical counseling approach, with an emphasis on client-centeredness and discovering the best pathway toward healing for you.
