About

For the past 25 years, I have been working with families as a school counselor in both New York and California. In 2001, I decided to return to school for my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University at Dominguez Hills. In 2016, I decided to go part time in my school counseling career and finally opened my doors to my own private practice to serve the needs of teens and young adults here in the South Bay.

Having always been drawn to support those in the LGBTQ population, I decided to get further training and obtained certification from the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists in Affirmative LGBTQ+ Therapy.

My true passion lies in helping those in the transgender and gender expansive community with co-occurring mental health concerns, transition, family education and acceptance building and referrals to the medical community. Working closely with programs like the Trans-youth Center for Health and Development at LA Children's Hospital and St. John's Well Child and Family Center's Transgender Health program, I strive to provide needed resources and continuation of care if that need arises. I also volunteer my time to our local South Bay PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Chapter as a facilitator and as a board member for the South Bay LGBTQ Center. I am a member of WPATH (World Organization of Transgender Heath and CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Due to all the years of working with teens and young adults, I also love to support families struggling with such issues as anxiety, ADHD, and depression. I love helping parents and teens in high conflict families learn to communicate more effectively and build stronger relationships as well. I find that I am a very effective mediator and am able to support both sides equally.

My clinical work is strength based, family inclusive and directive as I strive to give my clients the necessary tools to heal. I am very directive and take an active involvement with my clients. I am not a passive, sit-back and just listen type of therapist and engage with you fully in helping you achieve your treatment goals. In terms of evaluating strengths, I look at each client as an individual and find within them their unique talents and build upon them in our work. I often use laughter and humor as well as a tool to remind the client not to take themselves so seriously. We will laugh in session a lot!

My theoretical approach is a combination cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, person-centered, and motivational interviewing approaches. Be prepared to try to ways of thinking and behaving in the form of therapeutic homework to achieve a. better you!
