About

TFT Center is run by Dr. Caroline Sakai, an authorized trainer of Callahan Techniques Thought Field Therapy. She was introduced to Dr. Callahan and TFT while working at Kaiser Behavioral Health Services where she was former Chief Psychologist. She had been a practicing clinical therapist since 1966. She has masters degrees in Social Work and Psychology, and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. While at Kaiser BHS she developed an intensive out-patient program, and several group programs including groups for anxiety, depression, groups for teens and children, couples workshops, and instituted the Behavioral Medicine Services in Kaiser’s primary care clinics. She has been an EMDR consultant and facilitator as well.

Her dedication to empowering people, enhancing their functioning and optimizing their health through the most efficient modalities has driven her to seek out and research new treatments and currently fuels her desire to train people in Thought Field Therapy. She continues to learn and share her knowledge in her training courses and her volunteer trauma relief missions. She has led volunteer clinical teams working with TFT in Rwanda, treating posttraumatic stress disorder in genocide survivors, and training community leaders interested in learning and using TFT. Dr. Sakai also headed volunteer clinical teams to New Orleans post- Katrina to work with first responders and survivors, and works with military personnel, treating PTSD. She has been practicing TFT, and conducting professional courses for health professionals since 1998.

Dr. Sakai has presented at national and international conferences on TFT. She presented “Introduction to Thought Field Therapy with Emphasis on Clinical Applications with Anxiety and Stress” at the 17th World Congress on Psychosomatic Medicine, August 2003, Waikaloa, Hawaii. She presented “Rapid Reduction of Stress, Anger and Anxiety” at the 7th Annual International Energy Psychology Conference, April 2005, in Baltimore, Maryland. She also presented on TFT with genocide survivors at the Association of Thought Field Therapy Conference, October 2007, in Boston, Massachusetts. She co-presented a workshop with Suzanne Connolly at the 10th International Congress on Ericksonian Approaches to Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, December 2007 in Phoenix Arizona. Dr. Sakai presented “Energy Psychology Transforming a Nation” at ACEP 2018, and “Transformational Change with EP: From Trauma to Sustainability” at the 21st International Energy Psychology Conference, May 2019.

She has published articles on TFT (Journal of Clinical Psychology, October 2001), EMDR (Psychotherapy, Fall 1997; International Journal of Stress Management, 2004) and domestic abuse (Families in Society, November 1991). Dr. Sakai has also written on major depression and personality disorders, anxiety and panic disorder.

Dr. Sakai currently is in full time private practice in Honolulu where she does individual therapy with adults, children and adolescents, couples and family therapy, as well as consultations. She teaches seminars and courses in Thought Field Therapy, and she continuously improves her methods helping others learn TFT and use it effectively.
